It seems a long time since we last played at home. Since then, any hopes that we had of promotion have disappeared. But we do have a Yorkshire Cup final to look forward to on Saturday, 18 May : KO 16:00 at Doncaster Knights – we are waiting to see who we will play.
Our performance at Ilkley almost a month ago was one of the best of our season. At Alnwick, we struggled to break down their excellent defence. At Scarborough, we won fairly comfortably in the end, without really hitting top form. And in our most recent game, at Heath, we did not take our chances as we again struggled to break down their defence. We now sit fourth in the table which I think is a fair reflection off our season, a place we probably deserve to be.
The 1st XV personnel has chopped and changed over the last four weeks and does so again today. John Soanes, Joe Robinson and Kyle Turner are missing from last week’s line-up, but Jack Sowersby and Will Hughes return.
Our 2nd XV today has been cancelled as Ilkley could not raise a team to travel.
The 3rd XV travel to Hullensians to play their second team. After the disappointing defeat at Barton last week, the lads need a win today and to beat Goole at home in their last league game to be sure of a home play-off. It is all fairly close in that league.
The 4th XV play their last away fixture today, travelling to Scunthorpe. They finish with two home fixtures, against Goole and then Bridlington. Gareth and his men have struggled a little, but they have fulfilled all their fixtures and always had a full complement of players : this is something they can be extremely proud of.
Neither the Ladies nor the Colts have a game this weekend.
