We are fast approaching the business end of the season with still plenty to play for, both at the top and bottom of the league. Scunthorpe have slipped up over the last couple of games, and now have both Huddersfield and Heath breathing down their necks. The latter meet each other today in what will be a very spicy affair. Scunthorpe can do us a favour by beating Selby. Blaydon away at Percy Park will have a major bearing on the relegation scrap.
We put in a good performance at Huddersfield and, with a little more composure, could have come away with the win.
The 2nd XV are also at home to Alnwick, desperate to get back to winning ways but still with an outside chance of reaching the play-offs. They turn out a strong team today with Felix Nellen back to bolster the ranks for the rest of the season. The 3rd XV are also at home to Pocklington today, so a busy day is expected at the club – so, please be patient and help wherever you can in the clubhouse before and after the game. The 4th XV game is cancelled as the opposition could not raise a team. Both 3rd and 4th XVs had comfortable wins at Scunthorpe last week, something of a rarity, and are now both in good positions to qualify for the play-offs.
Both the Colts and Ladies XVs had good wins last week to maintain pressure at the top of their respective leagues. The Colts welcome Beverley tomorrow, and the Ladies play their rearranged game at home to Southport Ladies.
Finally, a big welcome to all players and supporters from Alnwick, a true rugby club. After a slow start they have been on a excellent run since late November, only losing two games and now sit comfortably mid-table.
