Morley are this weekend’s opponents in North One East : they currently sit 11th in the league with 24 points, but have a game in hand following last weekend’s bad weather.  So far, they have played 10 :  W5 and L5.  Morley have a good home record this season, with the only loss being to Ilkley – their wins came against Malton & Norton 25-14, Consett 38-7 and Pocklington 13-0.  Away from home they have had a tougher time, only winning at Durham City and Bradford.

We have played Morley numerous times over the last few season.  Mostly we have had tight games : last season it was one apiece, with home advantage winning the day.  Morley won 11-7 at their place, whilst we won 39-29 at Kelleythorpe. Morley finished last season in 6th position with 73 points.

They had a week off last weekend as their pitch was covered in snow, which seems bizarre as we played at Bradford with not a flake of snow around.  However, i have seen the photos and they definitely had a good covering at Morley.  So their last outing was against Cleckheaton on the 20th November, where Cleck had home advantage and won 37-15.

As mentioned above, our game at Bradford went ahead.  The conditions were not that great with a freezing strong wind blowing down the pitch.  Driffield had won the match by half time, turning around 7 -31. With the wind in our faces in the 2nd half, we struggled to get out of our half, but came away with a strong result winning 38-14.

This win, coupled with Heath’s one point win over Brods, puts us top of the table and four points above Old Brods who sit in 2nd.  Ilkley can jump to 2nd if they win their game in hand.

A big couple of weeks ahead as we look to push on : Morley this weekend, then two local derbyied, with Pock away on the 11th and Malton at home on the 18th.

Some good news in the squad too as some of the lads start returning from their injuries.  Captain Mewburn returns at flanker and Johnson makes a start in the centres.  We also have Rob Watts joining us on loan from Hull RUFC, starting at 9.
